Library card applications are available at the front desk of the library, or you can fill out the application online (see below) and email application and verification documents to our email at slibrary@stillwatercountylibrary.org.
Residents and taxpayers of Stillwater County Montana 10 years and older can apply for a library card for free. Applicants 10-12 years of age or under must have a guardian signature of consent. Replacement cards can be obtained for $1. There is a $10 yearly fee for non-residents of Stillwater County. Free temporary cards will be administered on case-by-case basis. Library Cards that are not active for 2+ years may be removed requiring patrons to fill out a new application at no cost.
All applicants are required to provide verification of identity and proof of address with one or more of the following forms of verification below.
Proof of Identity:
- Current driver’s license/ State ID/ Passport/ Military ID
- Student ID/ Faculty ID
Proof of Permanent Residency or Property Ownership:
- Photo ID with current address.
- Copy of deed, lease agreement, mortgage or tax bill
- Current utility bill, credit card or bank statement
- Voter or vehicle registration, insurance card, hunting or fishing license
Proof of business proprietorship:
- Current rental lease
- Business license
- Property tax bill
Proof of temporary residency:
- Receipt from RV park
- Current lease or rental agreement from landlord for an apartment or house
By applying for a library card, you agree to be responsible for all charges for any lost or damaged library materials checked out on the card. You understand that the abuse of library rules or policies may result in the loss of library privileges. You must notify the library of any address/phone/email changes and/or the loss of library card. If your card is lost or stolen, you are responsible for charges on it until the library is notified of its loss.

On the application, what does “Children under 10 on card:” mean?
In this section, we encourage you to write down minor children in your household who will check out materials under your card.
On the application, what does “Holds Permission” mean?
Through our online catalog or by asking a librarian you can make holds of materials. When those materials are available for pickup at the front desk, we will give you call. You can designate other individual(s) permission to pick up items for you in this section. This will remain in effect until revoked in writing.
