Stillwater Radio Club

January 11 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Introduction class to amateur radio with Gil Leonard from the Stillwater Radio Club.  For ages 7 to adult.  All radio users are invited including FRS (family radio service), GMRS (licensed radio service), and amateur radio service (licensed “HAM radio”).  After a group is established, come to regularly scheduled classes to get licensed in amateur radio!

Why learn about amateur radio?  In the age of the internet and cell phones, HAM radio is still an ongoing hobby, and for good reason!  It is a great STEM activity and has a fun technical challenge of building and operating radio equipment.  There is also a social aspect of connecting to other operators all over the world.  Operators participate in yearly challenges and tournaments as well!  It is an invaluable public service during a crisis or emergency.  When electricity, cell towers and internet fail, radio can still communicate across long distances.  It is a critical lifeline for every community.
