Meeting the Needs of a Community
Dollar for dollar, libraries offer huge returns for tax and donations for their patrons. Not only can they replace expensive subscription services for books, movies and audiobooks, but they also provide free digital resources, computer access, educational resources and specialized tools. Your patronage helps libraries expand these programs to provide education, inspiration, innovation and support to your community. See how the Stillwater County Library meets the needs of our community today:
Early Literacy Programs
Building economic growth, fostering public health and developing community starts with our youngest patrons. Prize-winning economist James Heckman found that every $1 invested in early childhood programs had a return of $4 to $16 dollars social capital, primarily through higher earnings and better health. Our youth programs focus on early literacy because it is the number one factor in future academic success, foundational social-emotional skills and indicator for life-long learning. Technology and Digital Resources
Our library provides free 24/7 Wi-Fi access and eight public computers for community use. These can be used to build a resume, start a business, apply for unemployment and public benefits. Patrons can also check out Hotspots, laptops and Ipads. Our librarians provide tech assistance for email, word programs and our digital resources. These bridge the “digital divide” for individuals who do not have access to the internet and technology.
